About

I have worked in tourism and hospitality for more than 25 years. Sales, revenue and marketing strategy are my job; history, culture and innovation are my curiosity.

In short

This is where I keep what I am curious about, what I read and what I see on the road. A question catches me, I go after it, and I write what I find. That is what this site is for.

What I spend my time on

Reading. Reading and research are my greatest passion. Discovering new worlds starts with learning.

Travelling. I observe what I have learned. Wherever I go, I look for the story first: why was that city founded there, why was that building made that way? I record that story from my own perspective. Every city has a story, and every story has a hero.

Writing. I share my search for meaning by leaving a trace. Most pieces start with a question. I go to the sources and put what I find into words.

Trying out new technology. When a new tool appears, I cannot rest until I have tried it. These days artificial intelligence takes up most of that time.

What I am curious about

The stories history left on the margins. Details that never made it into textbooks, forgotten names, things everyone “knows” that are wrong. The real story is often hidden in a footnote.

Where traditions come from. Most things we take for granted have a long road behind them. Where does a habit come from, how does it settle, why does it stay?

Places. Why was a city founded where it is? How did geography shape a place’s fate? Looking at a map always makes me ask questions.

People. I like listening to people’s stories. A good piece of writing often comes out of a good conversation.

Tomorrow. Technology, the environment, changing habits. I look at the past to understand today, and at today to understand tomorrow.

What I write

I research and write about tourism, history, culture, innovation and current affairs. You can find my writing on this site and on LinkedIn.
